Founded in March 2006, Jacksonville Roller Derby (JRD) is Jacksonville’s first and only flat-track roller derby league. The JRD have since earned a reputation for hitting hard and playing strong against other leagues throughout the Southeast region. Comprised of over 70 skaters, JRD is dispersed among 3 teams that compete on differing skill levels: our travel teams are the J Villains (C team), River City Rat Pack (B team), and the New Jax City Rollers (WFTDA All Stars). Home teams consist of the Duval Derby Dames, First Coast Fatales, and the Bold City Bombshells. Jacksonville Roller Derby is member owned-and-operated and is based on the concept “by the skaters, for the skaters.” All of our league members are volunteers who are dedicated to promoting an action-packed, full-contact sport that is both a thrill to play and non-stop entertainment for the spectator.
JRD was accepted into the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) in December 2010. The 2013 season set a precedent for the league as we trained harder and played some of the most experienced leagues in the country. In 2011, we played our first WFTDA international playoffs. In 2015, we hosted the WFTDA D-1 international playoffs, where we landed a spot in the WFTDA international championship. We started 2013 holding the #40 spot (in the world), and in 2015 we made our first trip to Champs! Since then, we have continually ranked as a WFTDA top 20 team, even reaching #10 (in the world) for 2018!
Though we’ve been on hiatus for a few years due to the pandemic, we are excited to take the track again for our 2023 season!
JRD is not solely known for our athleticism, but is also recognized throughout Jacksonville for our volunteer efforts. We strongly believe in giving back to the community that has supported the foundation of our league. The team and staff regularly make appearances at local events by donating time, labor, and goods to community and charity organizations such as The Arc of Jacksonville, Children’s Miracle Network, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Toys for Tots, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
